Meet the experienced and friendly doctors who make Clear View Optometry a proud provider of vision care products and services in Winston-Salem.


John F. Clerico, OD

Dr. John Clerico grew up in New Boston, a small steel mill town in southern Ohio. He attended Glenwood High School where he was a three-year starter for the basketball team, National Honor Society member and President, yearbook staff editor, and Valedictorian of his graduating class. After high school school, he attended Marietta College and Ohio University to pursue fulfilling the requirements to enter Optometry School and was accepted into The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1971.

Before entering Optometry school, he married his wife, Patti, who has been by his side for over fifty years. They have two daughters, Holli and Heidi, as well as two grandchildren, Chris and Josh.

Dr. Clerico’s love of basketball has stayed with him as he continued to play and coach youth throughout his life.  He is a member of Friedberg Moravian Church.  His activities in the church have included serving as a Sunday-school teacher for various ages,  a deacon and a trustee, and Youth Director.  His other interests include watching The Ohio State University athletics, golfing with his grandsons, model railroading, and spending time with his two Miniature Schnauzers, Sophie and Max.

Throughout his career, Dr. Clerico has strived to put his patient’s needs ahead of all else. His motto has been, “I care about your family’s eye care”.  Dr. Clerico’s professional memberships include Winston Salem Optometric Society, North Carolina Optometric Society, and American Optometric Association.


Terry W. Ellington, OD, FAAO

Terry Ellington grew up in Randolph County and attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  By 2002, he had received a second Bachelor of Science in Physiologic Optics and a Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.  In May 2022, Dr. Ellington received a Master of Arts in International Politics and Military Affairs from The Citadel in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Ellington is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.  He is also a member of the American Optometric Association, North Carolina State Optometric Society, and the Winston-Salem District Society.

Dr. Ellington currently is an officer in the US Army Reserve.  He has had deployments to the Balkans and Afghanistan.

Dr. Ellington and his wife, Wendy, have three sons, Xander, Ethan, and Carter.  Both are very involved in their sons’ Boy Scout Troop where Dr. Ellington serves as the Troop Committee Chairman.  They are active members of Friedberg Moravian Church.

Dr. Ellington spends his free time traveling and spending time with his family as they enjoy working on their goal to visit all fifty states.
